About Bosporus Strait traffic
The Bosporus runs through Istanbul and is the only sea link between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Grain, oil and container traffic from Ukraine, Russia, Romania and Bulgaria all pass through this narrow, winding channel.
How transits are counted
Official daily totals come from IMF PortWatch. The live map shows vessels in range of shore receivers; StraitTraffic adds its own transit count only when they cover both ends of the strait, and local ferries and harbour traffic that stay inside the strait are never counted.
